To my surprise, the English one comes out before the Japanese for once, and as belated as it is, it’s probably better than never!

It makes me wonder why/how I’m managed to do parts of this article live from the venue, but that aside.
It’s that time of the year again, for the UBC Anime Club’s annual Halloween Dance.
Those of you curious as to what the event is like can check out my previous article from about a year ago.

Instead of musical chairs – what was thought to have been more or less a tradition for UBC Anime Club’s dances – the featured activity of the night was an improv dance contest.
The idea was rather simple: the DJ would put on a random track of his choice, and the contestants would perform an improv dance routine.
If you thought that was hard enough, how about if the DJ switched to completely different song all the sudden?
To my amazement, all the contestants adjusted very well to the sudden changes, and danced their hearts out.

Some people may wonder as to what exactly gets played at a dance like this – it’s the day before Halloween, but this is an anime-themed dance.
I thought I’d just list some of the songs that were played – this is nowhere close to a complete list, but it should give you an idea:

Apologies for the lack of updates in English, I’m trying to get back on track with some of these articles here and there, but things (especially translations, especially the ones for Haruka) seem to take much, much longer than I anticipated.

I will, however, ensure that at the very least, the articles I’ve written will be translated sometime soon. I can’t make much promises with regards to Haruka’s, as it takes me longer not only to translate, but also to proofread them with Haruka to ensure I’m not goofing up anything she intended to convey.
Meanwhile, our blog is almost reaching its first birthday, and Haruka and I are planning on doing some kind of a joint thing – more on this to come in the near future.

Last but not least, I recently contributed an article to a Japanese Fanzine called “Animerca”, which is a compilation of criticisms and reviews pertaining to anime, manga, and games in Japan.

I wrote an article on “Fanmade Subtitles as a medium of Creative Visual Expression” (that, by the way, was just a rough translation of the Japanese title that I just thought of as I’m typing this, and it’s probably not going to be an official title of the English version of the article, if I ever do one) – in short, it’s a bit of a talk on the technology and techniques used to produce fansubs without going into details about its legitimacy. The intent of the article is more or less an introduction of what fansubs are, as Japanese people may not actually be aware of what fansubs are (at least not beyond “oh, so it’s just some subtitles that amateurs made up for themselves.”)
